Installed in March, the garden’s three native grass trees have settled beautifully. After a very wet winter, their older outer foliage has begun to droop under the weight of moisture—a natural response as the plant adjusts to its new environment.
The vigorous new central growth is a clear sign of health and successful establishment. Now, five months on, light aesthetic pruning of the outer leaves can be done to restore the tidy, upright look often seen in nursery specimens. This helps maintain the sculptural form while supporting the tree’s ongoing growth.

The mature trees for the rear yard are Queensland rainforest natives, supplied in 100L by Tony & Sons Nursery. The central tree is a Xanthostemon chrysanthus 'Golden Penda,' known for its wide canopy, feature flowers, and lush evergreen spreading foliage. It is flanked by Elaeocarpus reticulatus 'Prima Donna,' which will serve as both features and screening, with an oblong habit.
Three months in, the garden is thriving, following being planted at the height of summer. Thanks to Greenlife Soil Co and Nutrien Water for making it possible to give the plants and trees their best life. And of course Tony & Sons for the gorgeous native rainforest trees, bringing the canopy and soft setting for this happy green space.
